To leave the city behind is to choose a different pace of life, one measured by the rustle of leaves, the morning songs of birds, and the quiet harvest of freshly planted groves. When our clients decided to move permanently to their farmland, they asked for a home that would reflect their commitment to the soil they were moving onto.
When we first surveyed the site, two monumental banyan trees formed a natural portal. By slipping the single-storey plan into the exact clearing between these twin sentinels, we preserved the microclimate the trees had already made and set the house beneath a living canopy.
Two monumental banyan trees formed a natural portal.
A covered walkway threads every bedroom back to the garden it was built to protect.
Every gesture after that followed from environmental stewardship and a wish for authentic grounding. Built predominantly from materials harvested and sourced in the immediate vicinity, the house breathes with the landscape rather than competing against it. It stands today as a certified Platinum Green Building: less a residence than a working ecosystem, made for a couple who found their truest comfort in the ground itself.
