THE ATELIER
Vogelkop is an atelier in Ahmedabad working across architecture, interiors and landscape as a single practice.
We are small on purpose. Three people take every project from the first site visit to the last handover, which means the drawings and the building are made by the same hands, and nothing is lost in translation between an office and a contractor.
Our work is residential and, occasionally, hospitality. It is almost always in Gujarat, on sites we can reach in a morning and revisit in an afternoon. We think that proximity is a large part of why the buildings turn out the way they do.
Paresh Patel
Paresh started the practice with a simple rule: never draw a plan before walking the site twice. He leads design across the studio’s residential work and spends most of the week on site rather than at a desk. His projects tend to be recognisable by what has been kept, a tree, a level change, an old wall, rather than by what has been added.
Prachi Patel
Prachi draws the interiors at the same time as the architecture, in the same materials, so that a house does not change its mind when you step through the door. She works closely with the karigars and furniture makers the studio has used for years, and she is the reason a Vogelkop interior feels warm rather than styled.
Avi Patel
Avi carries projects from working drawings through to handover. He runs the site coordination, the consultants and the detail packages, and he is the person a client speaks to most often during construction. He is also the studio’s most stubborn advocate for finishing things properly.
